Olivers n Ambers Youth Groups

Editorial for Olivers n Ambers Youth Groups

Olivers and Ambers Youth Clubs

Olivers Youth Club and the Amber project are based in the Whit Lane area of Salford. They target young people of the area Ambers for the very young and Olivers for the teen agers.

They are really sucessful at engaging young people that wouldn't normally go to youth groups. Some of the events they run are drop ins sessions at Oliver's Gym and the Amber hut, bike rides to Blackpool, camping trips, fundays, cinema screenings etc. As a treat to the young youth workers they also went on a trip to check out Glastonbury festival. Some of the videos below give you a flavour of what they have got up to.

The project was conceived from a desire to fill the gap between theory and practice in environmental courses at the University of Salford, and to contribute to improving the environment in the city.

Bureaucracy

The constitution of the EU is soviet in style. There is the Council of Ministers (European Council EC) made up of Government heads of each of the EU member nations, (the ruling clique). Then the EC European Commission with its very powerful president, who is not even elected (politburo). Next, a powerless, albeit elected European parliament (supreme soviet).
